RANDY BUTTON, who founded The Capitol Strategy Group, LLC in January 2007, brings the experience of a seasoned and successful business executive and the connections of a political veteran:
- Campaign aid in Al Gore’s presidential and U.S. Senate campaigns and in both of Gov. Ned Ray McWherter’s gubernatorial campaigns.
- Roane County Property Assessor.
- Senior adviser to the 2002 Phil Bredesen for Governor campaign.
- Two-term chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party.
- Director of Victory 2006 – the Tennessee Democratic coordinated campaign.
In the business arena, Button has been CEO of several successful firms and founded East Tennessee Appraisal Group. He has chaired the Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission, is a member of the Tennessee Lobbyists Association and is the governor's appointee to the state Board of Equalization.
A University of Tennessee graduate in business administration, Button is a Roane County native. He and his wife, Kim, have three children, Courtney, Lindsay, and Adam, and live in Brentwood.
KIM G. ADKINS, a licensed attorney who co-founded The Capitol Strategy Group, LLC with Randy Button, has impressive credentials in politics and government at the state and federal level:
- Oversaw fundraising that brought in more than $8 million during Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.
- Government relations and corporate communications specialist at the Tennessee Valley Authority.
- Policy director in the state Department of Environment and Conservation.
- Managed a $6 million budget as comptroller of Victory 2006, assuring that all compliance requirements were met.
Adkins is a member of the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations as well as the Women’s Association of Lawyers, holding a law degree from the Nashville School of Law, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class. She is Of Counsel to Farrar & Bates, LLP.
A native of Jackson, Adkins received her bachelor’s degree from Middle State Tennessee University. She is a member of the Tennessee Lobbyists Association.
Adkins and her husband, Greg, live in Nashville.
STEVE BUTTRY has broad business, political and government experience, both as a legislator and executive staff member on Capitol Hill in Nashville:
- Re-elected three times to represent Knoxville’s 18th state House District as a Republican.
- Committees: Transportation, Consumer and Employee Affairs; Children and Family; Public Transportation (vice-chair).
- Named Legislator of the Year in 2004 by TNCO.
- Secretary of the Republican Caucus.
- Special assistant to the commissioner in the state Department of Transportation.
- Regional field director for Bob Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign.
- Investigator in Knoxville for child abuse and neglect cases in the state Department of Human Services.
Buttry worked as a project manager with Connected Tennessee to help make broadband Internet service available across 33 East Tennessee counties. His previous experience includes pharmaceutical sales with Pfizer, and he also co-founded First Response of Tennessee.
Buttry, born in Sneedville, received his bachelor’s degree in political science at East Tennessee State University. He and is wife, Cindy, have one son, Zach, and live in Knoxville.
